Green Building Rivals

Large, wooden beams grace the main area of the Ecotrust building, originally built in 1895 and restored in 2000, in Portland, Ore., Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2013. The building is a LEED-certified commercial building, but the system that gives builders, developers, architects and cities a powerful marketing tool, tax breaks and other incentives has a controversial rival, Portland-based Green Globes, which markets itself as a simpler, less expensive alternative to LEED.(AP Photo/Don Ryan)
