Astor School Information

Welcome!

We are pleased to welcome Astor School families to BRAVO. Astor’s new designation as a Title I school makes all Astor students in grades 3-8 eligible to join BRAVO. As this is our first year working with Astor, our program looks a bit different than at our other schools. We are not able to provide a BRAVO teacher at Astor due to budget constraints. Instead, we are welcoming Astor students to join a BRAVO program at one of our other area schools.

3rd - 5th grade

Third, fourth, and fifth grade students are eligible to join our winds program at César Chávez School or the cello program at Rosa Parks Elementary.
In the winds program, students will learn to play a wind instrument such as clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet, or trombone. Classes meet after school on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students should arrive at Chávez by 3:45 to get settled in and get their instrument ready. Class begins at 4pm and runs until 5:25pm. Astor students may start attending BRAVO classes at César Chávez on Monday, October 7.
The cello program at Rosa Parks begins at 3:30 and runs until 4:55pm. Classes meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Astor students may start attending BRAVO classes at Rosa Parks on Tuesday, October 8. (We do not have a violin option for Astor this year.)
We know the bell schedule differences will cause Astor students to be late. We are ok with that.

6th - 8th Grade

Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students are eligible to join our strings program at George Middle School. In this program, students will learn to play a string instrument such as violin, viola, cello, or bass. Classes meet after school on Thursdays only. Our BRAVO classes operate under the SUN umbrella which is an afterschool program. The program starts with snacks at 4pm which gives Astor students time to get to George before the BRAVO class starts.

Students should arrive at George by 4:15 to get settled in and get their instrument ready. Though they are welcome to arrive by 4pm for snacks. Class begins at 4:30pm and runs until 6pm.

Astor students may start attending BRAVO classes at George Middle School on Thursday, October 10.

Transportation

BRAVO is not able to provide transportation for Astor students, but we do have some options we are willing to support.

  • Carpooling – We are looking for parents able to transport their student and other students
  • The BRAVO Van – BRAVO recently purchased a 15-passenger van. It can transport up to 13 students. If there are parents that are interested in driving the van, they will have to go through a background check and a DMV background check. After completing the background checks, we will approve you as a van driver and work with you on checking out and driving the van.
  • Please fill out the form below to let us know if you need transportation or wish to be a carpool and/or van driver.
